She is descended from some of the first people interred into the caves and she has the traits of cave-dwelling creatures, she is drained of pigment much like albinism, with white skin and hair, and pink eyes. Such is the arrangement, mortal criminals are condemned to the great caves of Kopellenvori to live without the sun, until their undead jailers require something of them, be it flesh, blood, brain, bone, or their very soul. The cavernous prisons below Kopellenvori are not managed, and while new criminals are often added, the society in the caves is one of might-makes-right, and severe barbarism. However, the Duke and Duquessa of Kopellenvori are not without mercy, despite the vile crimes of the cave-dwellers or their ancestors, every year there is a selection, a sort of tournament where all of the cave-born may compete for their freedom, and for one wish within the Dukes power to fulfill. The champion of the selection is offered apotheosis, transformation into a ducal vampire, granted by the Duke’s own special blood, to become a member of the Familiga Ducale, which is to be a Vampire, perfected, without the need to drink mortal blood, freed from the bloodthirsty nature often linked to vampirism. Duke Ludwig Emeraldis offers this to promising champions, or those with the soul of a true knight. Ducal Knights, or the Familiga Ducale, all resemble the features of the Duke himself their skin pales to the shade of snow, their hair darkens to the hue of a moonless night, and their eyes change color to a beautiful emerald green.
