He's technically on your side, anyways, so he has little reason to lose his composure, except when he gets mad at Archie's own stupidity in those games. However, his hot-headed attitude is much more prominent in Ruby or Omega Ruby. (Even with the whole world being against him, it's pretty clear that Maxie will do anything to get to his end goal), and that includes being a crazy ass. As mentioned before, (it's strongly implied that he loses his temper quickly at the slightest mistake made by his team members, and he often threatens the player for trying to stop Team Magma). There's a point where he loses it and starts acting like a total maniac, completely different from his usual demeanor, laughing and yelling at the player and Archie, knowing very well that the world is doomed to the drought that is soon to come. It's also noted that the fandom makes him more aggressive in works of fiction then in the games. He appears to be some kind of scientist, and a cold and calculating one at that. In contrast to Archie in Alpha Sapphire, (Maxie always sounds like a nerd) of the highest caliber, talking about the scientific details of his plans like he actually knows what he's doing and like (he leads his team's research); fitting, as his main objective is to facilitate the development of humanity. You also have to be pretty intelligent in order to lead hundreds of people to help you with your plan. On the other hand, he almost destroyed Hoenn with a region wide drought because he wanted to expand the land, which was stupid on his part. (He's mostly obsessed with two things to a disturbing degree: Groudon, and his vision of "eternal happiness for humanity" that would supposedly result from creating extra land). But it's also worth noting that the more you interfere with his plans, the more obsessed he becomes with eliminating you. During Maxie's crazy villain speech right before his final battle, he says to the player: "Even I, the great Maxie, have found myself wishing for something I cannot justify. And the illogical desire that I harbored was to have you present here at this moment. Hahaha... And now that fool's wish has come true. Fantastic! Nothing could please me more!" Both in the original Generation 3 games as well as in the Generation 6 remakes, Maxie and Archie come to seriously regret their actions after seeing how much damage they've caused, going as far as to disband their teams and disappear forever out of shame in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. In Omega Ruby, Team Magma does not disappear, and instead Maxie decides to reform it into a much less extremist organization that contributes to society in friendly ways and is willing to cooperate with those who have different views from his.
